The Secrets of a Long and Healthy Life – What Can We Learn from the Blue Zones?

Why do some communities around the world live, on average, longer, healthier, and happier lives? Researchers have found the answer in the Blue Zones – regions where an exceptionally high number of people reach the age of 90–100 while remaining active, engaged, and joyful.

Examples of such places include Okinawa (Japan), Ikaria (Greece), Sardinia (Italy), Loma Linda (California), and Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula. Though these regions are geographically distant, their lifestyles share common traits: simple, plant-based diets, natural daily movement, strong social connections, stress-relieving routines, and the art of slowing down.

These habits are not complicated – they are small, consistent choices that, over time, have an enormous impact on physical and mental well-being.

Habits That Lead to Longer Life
  • Simple, healthy nutrition: plenty of vegetables, legumes, and whole foods.

  • Regular movement: not forced gym routines, but natural activity – walking, gardening, climbing stairs.

  • Community: friends, family, and social ties that provide support.

Lurdy Life – Bringing Blue Zone Inspiration to the Workplace

At Lurdy House, we believe that a healthy lifestyle should not be a luxury, but a natural part of everyday life. That is why we are launching the Lurdy Life BLUE ZONE interactive lecture series. Over the course of four sessions (September to December), we’ll explore the secrets of long, healthy living – in a practical and easy-to-understand way.

The goal of the lectures is to help establish small but powerful habits that reduce stress, improve mental and physical balance, and bring us closer to the joy of life that defines the Blue Zones.
